Meet Jessica Gashin, a local Newton mom of two and the founder of Newton Neuropsychology Group. Originally from Milford, Jessica is raising her two children with her husband in a neighborhood where kids still ride bikes and ring doorbells, a true, close-knit community that she loves being a part of. With a deep passion for understanding how people think, feel, and develop, she has built a practice focused on care, expertise, and personal connection. At Newton Neuropsychology Group, Jessica and her team create a welcoming, collaborative environment where clients can gain insight, build resilience, and develop practical tools for improved well being. Let’s get to know Jessica!

Tell us about your family! How many children do you have, where are you from, and where do you live now?

I have 2 kids, Talia who is in third grade and Ari who is in first. We live in Newton. I’m originally from Milford and my husband is from Sharon. We also have a 2-year-old goldendoodle, Lilac. We got her last summer, she was in training to be a guide dog but (much to our benefit) she failed out because she is too friendly and excited around people and dogs.

What’s your favorite aspect about being part of this community?

I love that people genuinely want to connect and form small communities. Our neighborhood is small and feels like a time warp back to the 80’s. The kids ride bikes and ring doorbells to see if their friends are home. It’s great!

What’s your favorite family activity to do in the area?

Unpopular opinion but we love winter! We have a ski house at Waterville Valley in NH and we look forward to spending weekend winters and Christmas and February breaks up there. We love to ski, hike, and ice skate. In the summer, we love to be by the beach and the pool. Not in the area, but we also love to travel. Now that the kids are old enough, I’m excited to explore the world with them! I also try to do a special one-on-one trip with each kid every year. The alone time is so special!

Tell us more about your background and what inspired you to open Newton Neuropsychology Group.

I was in solo practice for a long time and missed the camaraderie of a group practice. What’s special about Newton Neuro is the staff culture. Everyone is truly so caring and people go out of their way to consult about cases and support each other. I’m constantly learning new things from my staff! I think patients can feel it too, since they are often getting the benefit of several brains for the price of one.

What do you love most about what you do?

This question has two parts for me. I love doing neuropsych testing because its like putting together pieces of a puzzle. You get to figure out how someone’s brain works and in doing so make solid recommendations to help them thrive. I love owning my business because of the people. The staff culture is so great, I truly enjoy going to work everyday.

It’s so hard to balance work and mom life. How do you maintain a healthy work life balance?

There’s never a perfect balance and I try to give myself grace. I do my best to leave work at work, but its not always possible. My kids are regulars at my office and love coming with me (although it could just be for the snacks and prizes!) I also have a supportive husband and we tag team when needed.

What is the best advice you’ve gotten from another mom?

“Parenting is about pivoting.” Credit that to Anne Hertzberg of Chestnut Dental! Parenting is full of unexpected challenges, detours, and hurdles. You need to pivot expectations and strategies. What works during one time period may be ineffective in another.

What is the best advice you’d like to give a mom?

Don’t go about it alone! Build your mom squad, sometimes you will need them, sometimes they will need you, but your village is key.
